Proxy Server Setting

E-mail protocol is different from HTTP, it doesn't have corresponding proxy mechanism, so user have to set up by different Proxy. Hereunder is the settings for WinGate and Microsoft Proxy Server.

WinGate (version 2.1)

1.In WinGate Server, execute GateKeeper and view the setting of POP3 Proxy Service and SMTP Mapping Service to activate the Proxy function (running as Foxmail Mail Server). For example, fill in your ISP SMTP server name in SMTP/Service field, such as public.guangzhou.gd.cn. For other settings, please keep it as default.

2.Setting for Foxmail
If your E-mail address is
yourname@public.guangzhou.gd.cn, your WinGate server name is "WinGate". Please open Foxmail Property dialog box and fill yourname#public.guangzhou.gd.cn in Personal/E-mail field. In Mail Server box, please fill in WinGate in POP3 Server and SMTP Server field. In POP3 Account field, please fill in yourname#public.guangzhou.gd.cn . By doing these settings, you can receive Internet mails through WinGate Server. Please fill in an E-mail address in Reply E-mail field letting recipient reply mail correctly.

Microsoft Proxy Server

MS Proxy server is different from WinGate, you only need to set up Winsock Proxy then install MS Proxy Client in your local PC. You don't need to set up anything special in Foxmail.

Set up Unknown Proxy Server

Most of Mail Server (e.g. Exchange) doesn't support E-mail service for general users, therefore you are not allowed to receive Internet Mail by using Foxmail.

If user can find a Proxy server supports SOCKS service, then use Assistant Software--SocksCap to fill in the Proxy Server IP in SocksCap, then activate SocksCap to use Foxmail normally. For further information of SocksCap, please refer to your MIS or use self-authentication.

If user can not find a sock proxy server, please use HTTP proxy server. It needs to activate SOCK2HTTP software to make local PS become a SOCK proxy server, then activate SocksCap then use Foxmail normally. Please fill in HTTP proxy server IP address in SOCK2HTTP and fill local PC IP address in SocksCap.
